My "lightbulb" moment.....

Okay, so in my previous post I explained that I would be opening up my own Etsy shop.  However, I did not mention what that shop would be or anything about what I would be selling!  Don't worry... I'm not completely clueless... I just knew that I would be writing about it like two minutes later in this post. :)

Anybody that knows me knows that when my creative juices get flowing my house usually ends up being re-arranged, re-painted, re-organized or whatever other good "re" word  you can think of!  I have taught myself to do many things simply because we live on a teacher's salary, but I also really like nice things.  That's not so bad, is it?!  I taught myself how to sew and fell in love with fabric designs.  I taught myself how to edit our own family pictures and fell in love with photography.  I taught myself how to up-cycle furniture and fell in love with spray paint of all things!  One of the things I am kind of addicted to (other than shoes and sunglasses) are lamps and lighting fixtures.  I LOVE them! Any time Chris and I get to go out shopping I  always end up dragging him over the lighting section.  He loves it. ;)

So, I decided that because most stores never have exactly what I'm looking for I would try my hand at creating some "one-of-a-kind" pieces for our home.  It took some trial and error, but I discovered that I had a hidden talent of taking old, nasty, ugly lamps and shades and completely re-doing them to make them more contemporary and sophisticated.  And what is so great is that I am working with so many of the things that I love to work with!

I love some of the shapes of old lamp bases.  And when they are cleaned up and painted and made all nice and shiny and then have a cool new shade with some beautiful fabric on it - it's literally a night and day difference.  I have about 8 lamps completed at this point and I can't wait to post the before and after photos of each one.  I'm pretty sure that is enough to be able to open up my shop as well - I'm so excited!!!  Then it's on to getting the word out on facebook, pinterest, etc...

Wish me luck!
